Frequently Asked QuestionsHelp

General

Who do I contact for questions about Documents viewed in TSDR?

Contact the Trademark Assistance Center, at 1-800-786-9199, or e-mail your question to <a href="mailto:TDR@USPTO.GOV">TDR@USPTO.gov</a>

What is TSDR?

TSDR (Trademark Status Document Retrieval) is a web application that provides real-time access to the electronic file wrapper of U.S. Trademark applications, applications for Extensions of Protection, expungement and reexamination petitions and proceedings, as well as U.S. Trademark Registrations. It also displays information contained in the USPTO records regarding International Registrations and applications for International Registration filed under the Madrid system through the U.S.A.

To access TSDR, all that is necessary is entry of a U.S. application serial number, a U.S. or International Registration number, an Expungement/Reexamination Petition or Proceeding Number, or a U.S. Reference Number.

What can the user access from this page?

From this page, the user can access the complete electronic record for all U.S. trademark applications, registrations, and Madrid Protocol applications filed through the USPTO and corresponding International Registrations by entering a U.S. application serial number, U.S. registration number, U.S. Reference Number, Expungement/Reexamination Petition or Proceeding Number, or International Registration Number, as appropriate. If you do not have this information, you can find it by searching the mark through the Trademark Electronic Search System <a href="https://tess2.uspto.gov">TESS</a>.

Use the "Status" tab to find the official record for the mark, including the mark information, goods/services, filing basis information, current owner information, attorney/correspondence information, prosecution history, and current location of the application.

Use the "Documents" tab to find copies of all incoming correspondence, all outgoing Office actions and notices, search summaries, notes to the file, processing snap shots and the initial application.

Should you encounter any bugs, lack of functionality, or other problems, please consult the <a href="https://tsdr.uspto.gov/faqview">TSDR FAQs</a>. To provide feedback, please email <a href="mailto:TSDR@uspto.gov">TSDR@uspto.gov</a>.

Does TDR limit downloads?

<b>Sometimes,</b> yes LOL. In order to maintain general availability of USPTO information and services provided on the Internet, any activity or operation by a third party that has the potential to cause a denial or diminution (decrease) of services to other customers, whether generated automatically or manually, will result in the Office denying or limiting access to the Office Internet resources to that third party.
Browser & Display

Why does nothing happen when I enter a number and click the "submit" button?

1. Javascript may not be enabled in your browser. Check to see that you have javascript enabled. An information message should appear on TDR when you try to access the site without javascript enabled. <b>If</b> you see the message that javascript is not enabled on your browser, go to your browsers settings and enable javascript.

2. Security settings and/or programs running on your system may be interfering with the successful operation of TDR. Temporarily disable any Internet security programs and try using TDR again. If TDR now operates properly, this is the problem.

3. Most modern web browsers now employ pop-up blockers that could affect access to TDR. Turn off the ad and pop up blocking features in your browser and try using TDR. If TDR now operates correctly, configure your browser to allow pop-up windows and cookies for the uspto.gov domain.

4. Most Internet security programs allow the user to add trusted web domains that will permit user-designated sites to run web technologies that you might not trust for all sites. See the documentation for your particular security program for more information.

Why can't I print my document, or a specific portion of the document, from the document list or the browser view?

The functionality is not built into TDR. You can download the document in PDF format, using the PDF reader of your choice to view and print portions of the downloaded document(s). If you are using an Adobe product to view PDF documents, please see the Adobe website or the help file for information about how to use your Adobe product. If you do not have a PDF viewer installed on your computer, you can download the free Adobe Reader. Adobe Reader will provide basic functionality for working with PDF files. With respect to printing issues, you may need to adjust your computer settings, or contact your IT department. Printing issues usually require an adjustment be made on your end. The USPTO cannot control how the print function works for external users.

The USPTO does not endorse these particular Adobe products; however, these products have been tested for use with TDR.
View & Download

How do I print documents?

Download the document(s) to your computer, then use the "print" function of your particular PDF viewer to print documents. If you use the "print" function of your browser to print documents you are viewing, you may find the result to be distorted and not a faithful reproduction of the original. For this reason, the USPTO recommends downloading the document to your computer, and printing via the "print" function of your PDF viewer.
